The service
The type of funeral service and the manner in which it is to be conducted is a matter of personal choice. Both chapels are open for use by any denomination or sect.
If it is intended to hold a religious ceremony prior to the cremation, the service may be held in either of the Penmount chapels.
A service may be held in the deceased's regular place of worship followed by committal at the crematorium. For those who wish to carry out a non-religious or secular service, the religious artefacts can be removed from Trelawny Chapel upon request.
On arrival at the chapel door, the coffin is transferred from the hearse to the panelled-oak wheeled bier.
The bier precedes the mourners into the chapel and rests within the catafalque. At the moment of committal, curtains are slowly drawn around the catafalque.
The coffin then lies hidden from view of the mourners until they have left the Chapel before it is transferred to the crematory. Alternatively at the moment of committal the curtains can be left open at the families request.
Facilities at Penmount
Waiting rooms and toilets, including facilities for the disabled, are located near to both chapels.
Staff trained in first aid are present if needed.
Music
Many people choose to play their loved one's favourite music at their funeral as a way to personalise their service and reflect their life.
At Penmount, both our Chapels have a state of the art Obitus Music System that can provide almost every available piece of music, hymn or organ music.
This extensive music library has over 3,000 songs and helps us to provide the families we serve with unique and personal funeral services.
We can also provide the services of a traditional organ and organist. Both our chapels have an electronic organ. You can pre-book an organist to accompany hymns or other music as requested.
Seating capacity
We have two chapels at Penmount. Our Trelawny chapel has seating for 109 people and Kernow chapel has seating for 50.
Assistive technology
Our chapels have induction loop systems. We also have service handbooks printed in Braille.
