Since 2001, Lizard Pathways has provided over 2,500 jobless individuals with
- matrix accredited quality information
- advice and guidance
on returning to work practical support with;
- the costs of transport
- childcare
- clothing
- equipment
- and assistance
effectively bridging the gap between benefits and first wage.
With a proven track record in successfully delivering employment support and progressing over 750 into work in West Cornwall and Lizard Peninsula.
This has been as a result of investment from the European Union’s European Social Fund (ESF), and through the UK Government as a result of delivering contracts for;
- Jobcentre Plus
- Department of Work and Pensions
- Education
- Education Skills Funding Agency
Lizard Pathways often supports those who are the most excluded with beneficiaries from a diverse range of backgrounds. Including;
- people with disabilities
- or health issues
- lone parents
- homeless/NFA
- people with drug/alcohol problems
- young people
- and ex-offenders
70% of the beneficiaries engaged by Lizard Pathways are on long term health related benefits, lone parents, NEET or ‘hidden jobless’ non benefit recipients.

Work Routes
As a result of ESF investment awarded by the DWP to Reed In Partnership, Lizard Pathways is delivering employment support in the West Cornwall area, which includes Penzance, St Ives, Hayle, St Just, Helston & The Lizard and their surrounding areas.
In total, Lizard Pathways aims to support 1,385 individuals in West Cornwall, progressing 378 into sustained work.
Individuals supported are assigned a Key Worker to help them choose from a range of support tailored to their needs and interests. This includes support:
- To find volunteering and work experience placements
- To provide inspirational and fun programmes to build communication, team work and motivational skills.
- To improve job search skills, CV and application forms, interview skills, work experience, work tasters,
- To advise on job options and starting your own business and access to employers who are recruiting.
- To provide 1-2-1 Information, Advice and Guidance
- To tailor individual support and mentoring
- To assist with barriers to employment
- In work continued support for 6 months
Positive People
The programme aims to benefit local communities by reducing poverty and anti-social behaviour.
It will also contribute to the growth of the local economy with employers having access to a pool of people with the relevant skills to meet their needs.
Positive People results from investment from the ESF and the Big Lottery Fund’s Building Better Opportunities Programme, which has been awarded to Pluss for the Coast to Coast area of Cornwall; covering much of mid Cornwall.
Lizard Pathways is one of the delivery partners and aims to support 133 individuals in particular, in Penryn and its surrounding villages.
Lizard Pathways supports eligible individuals by:
- Providing team and confidence building
- Offering motivational courses
- Facilitating outdoor activities
- Providing work focused training
- Running workshops on CV building, job search, interview skills and career planning
