Have your say on housing in Cornwall up to 2030


Residents are being asked to have a further say on how housing in Cornwall should look up until 2030. 

A survey earlier in the autumn on the Housing Strategy for Cornwall received more than 1,750 responses and now residents and stakeholders are being asked to give the Council their views on the draft strategy document itself.

Olly Monk, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Planning, said: “We had a great response to the initial survey and that has really helped us to further understand what residents and stakeholders think about the challenges we face and what we need to do in both the short and long term to make sure everyone in Cornwall has a safe and secure home in which to live.” 

Building on the work already undertaken, the Council now wants to hear views on the proposed draft Housing Strategy.  

Visit Let’s Talk Homes to view the document and then complete the survey, which is open until 5pm on Monday, January 17, 2022. 

Responses will then be used to develop the final version of the new Housing Strategy, which will go to the Council’s Cabinet and then Full Council in spring 2022. 

The Housing Strategy is a high-level document which looks at what the priorities will be for homes up to 2030, providing the framework and context for other plans, strategies and projects. 

Separately, the Council’s Housing Crisis Plan, which is being developed in response to the current pressures the Duchy is facing, has progressed through scrutiny. 

In June the council announced its plans to tackle both the immediate issues around housing and the longer-term problems.  

Earlier this month the Council announced that it had bought 130 homes at West Carclaze Garden Village, taking them off the open market and making them available to local households in needs for social rent, affordable rent and shared ownership.  

A range of further initiatives is in action, from the provision of more emergency accommodation at New County Hall in Truro and Rosewarne Car Park in Camborne, to the purchase and refurbishment of disused properties around Cornwall, development of a landmark modular homes scheme near Pool and a significant ramp-up of the new ‘council housing’ programme, including a new site on the edge of Padstow.
