Thousands of homes to be visited as Cornwall Council completes annual canvass

Thousands of homes across Cornwall are set to be visited over the coming weeks as Cornwall Council updates the electoral register.

The annual household canvass ensures that Cornwall Council can keep the electoral register up to date, identifying any residents who are not registered to vote so that they can be encouraged to do so.

Households that did not complete the annual canvass forms that were sent out via post and email may receive a visit from a member of staff from the Council in the coming weeks.

Anyone visiting your home on behalf of the Council will be able to show you their ID card.

Kate Kennally, Electoral Registration Officer at Cornwall Council, said: “It’s really important we make sure we have the right details on the electoral register for every address in Cornwall.

“You must be on the electoral register to be able to have your say at elections and other polls. If people do not respond to the letters or emails about the canvass, we visit properties to check we have the correct details.”

The easiest way to register to vote is online via the gov.uk website.

If you have questions about the electoral register you can contact your local registration team by calling 0300 123 1115.
