Have your say on the government’s Net Zero review

The Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Leadership Board is supporting the government’s call to residents, businesses and organisations to have their say on its review of its net zero plans.

At the board’s meeting on September 30 members agreed to submit a joint response to the Net Zero review launched by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy last week.

Cornwall Council is co-ordinating the response on behalf of the board which is made up of leaders across Cornwall and Isles of Scilly who work together to progress ambitions and address challenges facing the region.

The Net Zero review states: “Everyone in the country has a stake in the transition to net zero. It impacts consumers, employees and businesses alike, affecting our cities, agricultural economy and natural environment. It will continue to change the way we lead our lives, altering the way we warm our homes, commute to work and much more.”

The government is calling for views to be submitted from the public, businesses and other organisations on its plans for the net zero transition of the economy, maximising net zero growth opportunities, challenges identified in the review and the future of net zero.

Direct responses to the review can be made on this link by October 27 - Call for evidence on Net Zero review - Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy - Citizen Space.

In addition, in order to facilitate a CIOS Leadership Board response, members of the board have been invited to provide a response on behalf of their organisations.

Cllr Linda Taylor, Chair of the Leadership Board and Cornwall Council leader, said: “I look forward to providing a response to this review showing our firm commitment to delivering our collective carbon neutral ambitions and demonstrating how this will deliver for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.”

Mark Duddridge, Chair of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “This is an important opportunity for the people and businesses of Cornwall to give their views on the transition to a net-zero economy. This includes identifying barriers to decarbonisation and also the benefits it can bring, including the creation of green jobs.”
