Following on from a series of successful events in other parts of Cornwall, the Proud to Care Cornwall recruitment event is soon coming to Newquay. People looking for work in the area are encouraged to attend to find out more.
The event will take place at the Hotel Victoria on Tuesday, 10 October, 10am – 5pm. People can book a place or simply drop in at any time in the day.
Jackie Villanueva attended a similar event in Penzance earlier in the year and was offered a position as support worker.
“The first people I spoke to were Bluebird,” she said. “I told them what I was after, and they interviewed me. They offered me a job straight away, but I went away to think about it. There was no pressure at all and after a few days I decided to accept the role.
“I work part time and the lady I look after is lovely, it’s like being with your family. To know that you’re making a difference to somebody’s life, people are indoors, they’re lonely, that’s where I make a difference I think.”
Cllr Andy Virr, Cornwall Council cabinet member for adults and public health said:
“This is another fantastic opportunity to find out more about working in Cornwall’s care sector and become part of a community of workers who make a huge difference to people’s lives.
“It’s great to hear from Jackie about her experiences and we’re grateful to her and the many others who do what she does, bringing joy to people and giving them the support they need to live an independent life.”
More information about the event is available on the Proud to Care Cornwall website.
There will be another event held in Liskeard on Thursday 2 November at Elliot House Hotel, 10am- 5pm.
The work of Proud to Care Cornwall is part-funded by European Social Fund (ESF)
