A care worker from Cornwall has talked about what her day-to-day working life is like in Cornwall.
Alison Daws is a self-employed care worker from Pendeen and she has over 19 years’ experience of helping people in Cornwall.
In the video Alison talks about her daily routine, visiting people in their homes to help them with personal care, prepare food and get on with any cleaning that needs doing. She also lets family and friends know if she notices anything wrong so that it can quickly be acted on.
Cornwall Council cabinet member for adult social care and health, Cllr Andy Virr said:
“For anyone thinking about a job or career in Cornwall’s care sector this can provide a really good insight into what they can expect.
“As part of the Proud to Care Cornwall initiative we are encouraging people to think about how to go about applying, interviewing and training for a role. This recent information helps people to understand what their daily work would be like.
“Alison has provided some really useful information about the reality of care work and I think that will help people to understand what is involved and encourage more people to think about a role in this very rewarding career.”
Alison said:
“My main motivation is just helping people. That’s quite a good feeling when you go to work and you’ve helped someone that day, whether it’s a small thing or a big thing really. The other thing is that they really enjoy your company and its really nice to find out about them. I’ve met some amazing people.”
