Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service is classed as a Category 1 responder under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004. This means it has a statutory responsibility to:
- assess the risk of emergencies occurring and use this to inform contingency planning
- put in place emergency plans
- put in place business continuity arrangements in the event of situations such as severe weather disruption
- warn and inform the public in the event of an emergency
- share information with other local responders

These activities are co-ordinated through our Resilience and Emergency Management team.
The Service takes part in regular exercises to test its own plans and also works with other agencies to test the multi-agency plans.
