If you're responsible for a building, it’s important to do all you can to reduce the risk of fire to keep people safe. It saves lives, it’s your legal duty, and it makes good business sense.
Businesses have a legal duty to carry out a fire risk assessment. The law which governs this is the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, sometimes known as the RRO, or simply the fire safety order.
You will find guidance on why and how to carry out a fire risk assessment on the .GOV.UK website.
As your first step, please read the series of web pages, which will help you familiarise yourself with what is needed.
What type of assessment do I need?
The type of assessment you will need for your business premises will depend on the type of premises it is. To help with this the Government have provided a range of assessment guides. These set out what you need to do and the steps you need to follow. The guides are available to view or download free of charge.
