Carers provide regular and substantial unpaid help to someone who cannot manage without their support. You don’t have to live in the same house or be related to the person you look after to be a carer.
The person you care for may be:
- A frail older person
- Someone with a physical disability or learning disability
- Someone with mental ill health
- Someone with dementia
- Someone who has a long term illness or condition
What help is available for carers?

The carers service can help with finding support tailored to your situation, this could be via a carers needs assessment, benefits information, grants information. information advice and guidance around your caring role. This may include support for future planning, carer training opportunities, linking to someone to talk to about your caring role, access to breaks from caring, access to equipment, meals or adaptations to the home for the person you care for.

Assisted Living for Independence
Sometimes called Lifeline or button alarm, Alfi (Assisted Living for Independence) is a service of the Council based in Cornwall with 24/7 monitoring from a local Cornwall based monitoring centre. You must have at least one emergency responder in order to use the service.
