I left employment
If your benefits are preserved because you left employment, the only way you can rejoin is:
- if you start a new employment and,
- are eligible to join the pension scheme on that post.
If you re-commence employment with one of the organisations who participate in the scheme, it is likely that you would be brought into the scheme automatically (depending on who your employer is).
I opted out of the pension scheme
If you opted out of the pension scheme, you can rejoin at any time, providing you are still in employment and are eligible to join. You can rejoin by completing the Election form.
Please note that if you opt out of membership of the scheme and then subsequently rejoin the LGPS you will not be permitted to join the two periods of membership together and, instead, you will have two separate sets of pension benefits in the scheme.
