Morrab Gardens

About Morrab Gardens

These lovely public gardens are situated just off the Penzance town centre. They have been looked after by the Council since they were bought in 1888 for the sum of £3,120. Created in 1841, they are now home to a surprising variety of:

  • plants
  • shrubs
  • trees

These thrive in the mild Cornish sub-tropical climate.

The gardens contain a small public subscription library. They also feature some lovely Grade II architectural structures. These include a Victorian bandstand and fountain. The War Memorial commemorating the men lost from Penzance in the Boer War is below the library.

Many exotic species are grown for which the gardens’ position is suitable. A team of dedicated gardeners and ‘Friends’ look after the gardens. For anyone with a love of plants, particularly those of a sub-tropical nature, then Morrab Gardens will not disappoint. There is also a wealth of flora and fauna. The gardens offer a great environment for exploring and learning about the mini beasts who have chosen to make their home here.

Pengarth Day Centre situated within the gardens welcomes all those over 55. You can pop in for a coffee and a chat, enjoy a home-cooked lunch or join in some of the many activities.
