Why we charge for these types of waste

The Council doesn't have a statutory duty to dispose of these types of waste for free. Most UK local authorities are now applying charges. We would prefer to provide a convenient service for members of the public for a charge, rather than not offering this service at all.

How to pay

The sites are card payment only. We can’t take cash or cheques.

Do I have to use a household waste recycling centre?

No. Use of the HWRC is entirely at the site users' discretion. If the user:

  • isn't happy with the proposed charge, or
  • has lots of chargeable waste

alternatives can be considered. Such as hiring a skip or taking the waste to a commercial disposal site.  Details of local companies who deal with this type of waste can be found by searching online or in local directories.

Other waste

You can dispose of ordinary household waste free of charge at our household waste recycling centres, including:

  • garden waste
  • fridges
  • freezers
  • TVs
  • large and small electrical items
  • wood
  • bric a brac

We do not accept commercial waste.
