Get set: what you need to do when your new bins arrive

1. Look out for your new bins

Once everyone in the rollout area has had their Get Ready leaflet, our delivery contractor Jett will have crews out delivering bins from 7am to 7pm, 7 days a week, over a two to three month period.

You don't need to be home to take delivery of your new bins, as Jett's crews will leave them outside. The crews will carry letters confirming they're out working on Cornwall Council's behalf.

You will be able to check if you're in the current rollout area by entering your address in the My Area section of our website from October.

2. Write your house number or house name on your bins 

When your new bins arrive write your house number or house name on your:

  • green food waste collection caddy and
  • your rubbish bin or reusable protective sack

3. But don't use your new bins yet

To give us enough time to deliver food waste caddies and rubbish bins or sacks to all the homes in your area, you may get yours up to three months before your new service starts.

Please store them and don't use them until your new service starts.

We understand it may be frustrating not to be able to use them straight away, but it's important that you don't. Emptying the new wheelie bins will take our crews longer than collecting black rubbish bags.

We'd need 3 extra rubbish collection vehicles in the rollout area if everyone started using them before we change to the new service, and 20% of our current collection fleet don't have the mechanical capability yet to lift a wheelie bin.

To deliver the new service, we have to review all the current collection routes and timings in the rollout area and rescheduled them to take into account:

  • adding food waste as a third collection to the existing recycling and rubbish collections
  • the extra time it will take to empty the new wheelie bins
  • the extra time it will take to collect the higher volume of recycling people will put out to meet the new rubbish limit
  • changes to some of the collection depots and delivery points for some routes

This means that at the start of the new service we will be changing a lot of the collection days across the whole area. This has to be done simultaneously so we cannot change part of the individual areas before the others. We will review this policy as we proceed through the roll out of the new service across the county.

4. Check your new service start date

We'll send you a collection calendar with your new service start date shortly before your new collections begin. The calendar will also tell you your new collection day, if yours is changing.

We will also update your property information on the My Area page of our website with your new service start date and new collection schedule. Enter your postcode, select your address and click on 'View My Area' to view your collections information.

Please note: until your new collections start you'll continue to see both your current collection dates for the current service and your new collection dates for when you've switched to the new service.

Once your collections start you will see one set of dates.
