Employer's Liability (EL)


Employer's liability insurance provides indemnity to the Council. It covers all claims which they shall be legally liable to pay for injury or disease suffered by an employee as a result of their employment activities.

The limit of liability for any one incident is £50m.

There is no geographical restriction on the policy.

Information for Council employees and school governors

If any Council employee or school governor receives a formal letter of claim from a firm of solicitors who wish to pursue a claim against the Council please forward onto Scott George, Senior Insurance Officer, Dalvenie House, New County Hall, Treyew Road, Truro, Cornwall, TR1 3AY immediately. Alternatively you can scan and email it to Scott at scott.george@cornwall.gov.uk

The Insurance Team will deal with all correspondence received from solicitors. If a letter of claim is received please do not respond and forward to the Insurance Section as soon as possible.

Important information

There is no standard claim form for this policy. To make a claim the member of staff must do so in writing. Please send any such letter to:

The letter should outline as much detail as possible, stating the reasons why the claim is being made.
