Our statutory duties
We operate Highway CCTV and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera systems. This is to assist with statutory duties defined in the Traffic Management Act 2004.
Duties included are;
- management of origin-destination vehicle journeys to help improve the road network
- real time traffic monitoring and road networking management
- monitoring journey times to improve traffic flows
- to assist in traffic management
- to encourage safer and more sustainable use of multi-model transport
- to provide travel information to the media and public
- to provide evidence to confirm or refute compensation claims made against the Council
- the detection and prevention of crime (including criminal enforcement)

Who we share your information with
We don't share or sell this information with any other organisation outside of those listed within the Code of Practice. Nor is this information used for marketing purposes.
The Data Protection Act 2018 allows the disclosure of CCTV and ANPR data to the police.
We may disclose data in response to requests from the police and other statutory law enforcement agencies. We deal with each request with on a case-by-case basis. This is to ensure that any such disclosure is lawful and in accordance to the Data Protection Act 2018.
We do not store or share data as part of ANPR enabled sign operation (see ANPR Enabled Electronic Signs: Code of Practice).
How we look after your data
Data is encoded and stored at the point of capture by the CCTV or ANPR devise. We hold it for 3 months at most within the devise SD card or external hard drive. If we extract data we will store and share it via government approved secure connections.

Access to your information is only given to authorised members of staff. It will only be accessed for the purposes outlined in this privacy notice.
