Public e-bike hire schemes

Beryl Bikes

We have partnered with Beryl Bikes to deliver public e-bike hire schemes in:

  • Falmouth and Penryn
  • Newquay
  • Penzance
  • St Austell
  • Truro

The scheme is live in Falmouth and Penryn. The scheme allows people to hire bikes from one of 20 bays, returning to the same or other bays in the towns. The scheme provides a practical, active, low carbon way of getting around for everyday and leisure trips.

The easiest way to book an e-bike is to download the app on the Beryl website.

Local cycling and walking infrastructure plans

In 2020 the Government produced a Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy. Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs) feature in the strategy. They are a strategic approach to identifying cycling and walking improvements.

They enable a long-term approach to developing local cycling and walking networks. In turn, increasing the number of trips made on foot or by cycle.

The key outputs of LCWIPs are:

  • a network plan for walking and cycling with preferred routes and core walking zones
  • a prioritised programme of infrastructure improvements for future investment
  • a report which sets out the context for the identified improvements and network

The LCWIP will be the basis of bids for funding to deliver these improvements.

Community Cycle Tracks

Nine cycle tracks have been built at schools around Cornwall for community groups and clubs to hire.

The community cycle tracks are multi-purpose, all-weather facilities for all ages and abilities. They provide a safe environment to develop bike handling skills and confidence. They also contain features designed to challenge riders.

We hope the tracks will help encourage more people to cycle - swapping four wheels for two. It's not only good for our health, but our environment too!

We have funded the tracks with British Cycling and the schools themselves. The tracks are a legacy of Cornwall hosting the 2021 Tour of Britain.

The tracks are available for hire by community groups and clubs. Bikes and helmets are also available at some schools.

For information on how to hire the track and equipment, please contact the school.
